Motorcycle Riders constituted 2,989 of the 44,065 vehicular deaths in the US in 2002. Nonmotorists/Pedestrians accounted for 4,774.
My guess is that the percentage is higher in the Philippines given the explosion in use of relatively cheap scooters. That a lot of folks riding these bikes are young, without protection, inebriated and stupid certainly would contribute to the increase in motorcycle deaths here.
P.S. During the same year, 98,000 died because of medical errors. http://www.riskometer.org/pages/riskometerExposures.html. Motorcycles deaths can be found under Unintentional Injury (Print breakout). Deaths due to medical errors can be seen under Exposures.
