Araw ng Dabaw Parade (Mar 16, 2008)
Because nobody wanted to miss the start of the Pacquiao bout, this year’s Araw ng Dabaw parade started early, on time and was quickly wrapped-up. There was no waiting for VIP’s to arrive at the reviewing stage and, it seemed, even the parade participants were eager to get it over with ASAP. As usual, the Agilas looked good in full biker regalia and since we were positioned near the head of the parade, we finished early and had still had time to share a leisurely breakfast at Gorio’s before proceeding to Adriano’s to watch the boxing bout.
Flor's Birthday Party (Mar 15, 2008)
Even if we had late lunch just an hour ago, the banquet was just too inviting to pass up. So there we were again, gorging our tummies.
As usual, the conversation was fun, recalling the events a few hours ago, talking about the Agilas and the upcoming convention in Cagayan de Oro, and discovering that we had mutual friends.
Happy birthday Flor. Till your next birthday celebration.

Tudaya Falls
Located in the Municipality of Sta. Cruz, Tudaya Falls is the tallest waterfalls in the Mt. Apo Natural Park, dropping 100 meters to a pool that is 50 meters wide. Before the hydroelectric plant access road was built, reaching the falls meant a three hour hike from Kapatagan. Now, after a 30 minute ride from Kapatagan on a dirt bike or a 4x4 truck, it only takes about an hour, following a trail that can be steep and slippery at some points, to reach the bottom of the falls.
Tudaya Adventure Ride March 15 2008

The highlights started early. On the way to the designated jump-off place, Daniel, riding his bike sporting new knobby tires, overcooked the front brakes approaching a corner, and had a spill that required him to go back home to have the cement bite at his knee dressed. After Yvette expertly perfomed the correct medical procedure, Daniel, now wearing knee pads, together with Jing, Roy, Craig and Bdul on dirt bikes, and the VIPs Yvette, Rez, Rene, Lolit, Dodong and Boy, (and some other guests), in the comfort of air-conditioned pickup trucks, proceeded to Digos where at the junction of the road going to Kapatagan, were joined by Cloyd (riding a scooter!)
The ascending road to Kapatagan was full of tight turns and, except for short stretches, was paved. From Kapatagan to Tudaya, the new 15 kilometer road was more undulating, had very tight curves, with loose gravel liberally strewn all over. In a muddy and pitted detour, Bdul managed to fall, breaking the left rear-view mirror of his bike. And, later, in a downhill stretch, shouting curses and frantically steering his bike towards a narrow and improvised bamboo bridge, Bdul barely missed falling into a canal, creating a scene straight from some slap-stick comedy, to the delight (and horror) of the other riders.
Not knowing any better, the riders on dirt bike rode past the area where the hike down the waterfalls starts and continued riding until they reached the very end of the road where they had their pictures taken. After admiring the scenery, it was time to head back and look for the VIPs on the pickup trucks. Seeing that the initially run was steep, an anxious Bdul ask Roy to ride his bike up towards the clearing while he walked up. A helpful Roy mercifully obliged. And while Roy went down to get his bike, Daniel practiced doing wheelies and promptly fell off his bike which barely missed him as he and the bike fell to the ground!
The gravel on the new road was so loose that Roy, who scrambled up a road to help Bdul (who had fallen again the second time and this time broke the right rear-view mirror of his bike) lost traction and fell mightily on his ass.
The group on dirt bikes located the pickup trucks that had carried the VIPs and proceeded to follow them down the falls.
The datu who guided the group announced that it was going to be a 30 minute hike. He was lying.
After the hike down and from the falls, the group headed towards Sta. Cruz where Boy had prepared lunch in one of the seaside resorts. Unfortunately, it was discovered that the rear tire of Bdul’s bike had a flat. Roy suggested that he ride that bike back the 15 km to Kapatagan, which he did rather well, running up to 60 km/h and even overtaking other bikes, while the bike’s rear swayed left and right. Bdul, now was riding Roy’s bike, without much delay, again fell off from this bike.
After almost an hour waiting for the flat to be fixed, the ride down to Sta. Cruz began. To the dismay of the other riders, Bdul was riding so slowly that they had to stop and wait several times for him to catch up. Cloyd was finally given the unpleasant task of trailing Bdul as he slowly navigated the downhill turns and just to be around to pull Bdul up just in case he fell off the cliff. Unfortunately, Bdul did not fall off a cliff.
The group on dirt bikes arrived in Sta. Cruz town around 3pm after using a detour that cut the travel distance by about 7 kilometers. The group promptly proceeded to a resort and joined the VIPs and had a delicious, if late, lunch courtesy of Boy. A few minutes of rest and it was off to Flor’s place where cold beers and a sumptuous (early) dinner awaited.

Pres Daniel B-day Party
I got the pictures from Yvette, Pres. Daniel’s lovely wife, only last Sunday so this blog entry is a bit late. Nevertheless, all the Agilas again shout “Happy Birthday, Dan!!”, even if belatedly.

Montevista Ride Mar 2 2008

Ride to Nabunturan, Comval, which is around 100 kms away, have lunch, and wait to meet a group of Kagayhanon Kruser riders who were coming from Butuan. That was the plan, Dan. But even after a lazy breakfast in Panabo and a lanzones merienda on the side of the road, it was still early when the group arrived in Nabunturan. So an easy decision was made to ride farther to Montevista to have lunch and do the waiting there.
Inclement weather and equipment failures (sigh!) made the ride back longer than the usual but the group arrived safely to Davao in high spirits and eager to consume the required quota of beers in company of fellow riders.
