MotoGP at Efren and Ferdie’s Sports Bar

The Agilas had fun watching Valentino Rossi win the French MotoGP last Sunday May 18 at Efren and Ferdie’s Sports Bar, where the drinks were personally served by Ferdie and the food (bought fresh from the wet market) was expertly grilled to perfection by Chief Mechanic Ading.

The bar now boasts of an expanded mural featuring a collage of pictures of our rides and other activities. Riders and non-riders are all welcome.

Alvin’s Shop Opening

Fellow Agila Biker Alvin expanded his tire vulcanizing and repair business by opening a new shop, boasting new machines and offering customers convenient parking and a secure work area for their vehicles.

NAPMER VULCANIZING AND TIRE REPAIR CENTER formally opened last Sunday, May 18 and the Agilas were there to congratulate and wish Alvin even more success. The shop is located at Juan Luna St. (a few meters from Alvin’s original shop at Guerrero St.) and is open 24 hours.

Congrats ‘Vin!

Gold Cup Range

Agila Riders who are also shooting enthusiasts had another fun afternoon making holes at cardboard silhouettes and plinking round plates the Gold Cup Range at Laud last May 15.

Fred is the designated leader of this special interest group and he says an IDPA clinic and classifier match is in the works.

Sir Ping in a Barong

Agila Riders Past President Ping Buenaventura momentarily (and, probably, most reluctantly) discarded everyday biker attire for a more formal wear during a nephews’s wedding reception last weekend.

Understand that one of the purposes of this blog is to record for posterity things that may not happen again.

Outreach Activity at the Davao Mental Hospital

The Agilas, together with the Hon. Mabel Acosta, gave food and other useful things to patients of the Davao Mental Hospital (do they still call the place such or has it been replaced by a more politically-correct name?) last April 12 (which was covered by ABS-CBN. See previous post).

There seems to be a policy of not disclosing the names or showing the faces of the patients. So the pictures you will see here are those whose mental disorders, syndromes, neuroses, phobias, manias, and fetishes are not quite apparent or are still manageable and do not require confinement.

(Doc Jan, is it true that premature ejaculation is a mental illness?)

I am still working on the text. Will upload the pictures first for everyone's enjoyment..

Helping Men with their Aim

As all women who have ever shared a toilet with a man can attest, men can be especially spacey when it comes to their, er, aim. In the privacy of a home, that may be a mere annoyance. But, in a busy airport restroom used by throngs of travelers each day, the unpleasant effects of bad aim can add up rather quickly. Enter an ingenious economist who worked for Schiphol International Airport in Amsterdam. His idea was to etch an image of a black house fly onto the bowls of the airport’s urinals, just to the left of the drain. The result: Spillage declined 80 percent. It turns out that, if you give men a target, they can’t help but aim at it.

Congrats Kagayanon Krusers!

This may be month late, but congratulations are very much in order for the Kagayanon Krusers, headed by their President Jefferson Rolida and Convention Chairman Jondi Lacson for hosting what was arguably the best National Convention of Motorcycle Clubs of the Philippines in recent memory.

The 14th Annual Convention exceeded expectations on all measures: attendance (1200+), food (delicious and sufficient!), drinks (free-flowing), entertainment (fun), venues and physical setup (very nice!), convention kit and souvenir program (excellent), give-away t-shirts (first class) and programs (interesting and organized).

Add the small touches of being able to avail of a free bike wash, beautiful girls all around, a helpful and efficient secretariat, a good sound system, and a very warm welcome and hosting by the KK and the city of Cagayan de Oro, there was no question the participants obviously got much, much more than what the paid for to register in the convention.

No wonder, everybody had a grand time. Again, congratulations KK!

(Now will those who took pictures during the convention give me copies so I can make a proper entry of our convention ride and activities?)

The Agilas on "Mag TV Na, Sadya Ta" Show

The Agilas’ outreach activity (with Hon. Mabel Acosta) at the Davao Mental Hospital was shown by the ABS-CBN news magazine TV show “Mag TV na, Sadya ta” last Sunday, May 4, 2008.

The machismo (and concern!) of the Agilas can readily be perceived even in the grainy images that Skycable delivers to my old TV set.
